Pine: what you need to know.

Found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, Pine has long been used by humans to craft and create; from furniture to decking on ships, its versitility and workability has meant it has become one of the widly planted commercial trees in the world.

Nearly all the tree is used. The bark and sap is stripped and used to make industrial chemicals and turpentine. The pines, seeds and cones are eaten in some cultures.

Grown throughout Europe, pine was first used in the 17th Century, as wood such as Elm was becoming more expensive. Throughout Georgian and Victorian times, pine boards, seen as inferior, were commonly covered with rugs and painted to resemble more decadent hardwoods such as oak.

Pine is easy to work, easy to finish and easy to maintain, with a look that is all its own.
